It appears we got a little behind with blog posts. Courtney and Nate were married January 22nd but two months later it’s still winter!
We were just with them for a few hours, but we had a great time capturing photos around the conservatory and during their ceremony. This was our first wedding actually in the Como Park Conservatory, and as you can see it is a perfect place for a small winter wedding. The lighting was awesome and even though everything outside was cold and snowy there was plenty of color inside.
Courtney and Nate had mostly close family and a few friends at their wedding so they were able to have everyone stand one side of the greenhouse (not sure what to call it) and then use the other side as the isle. I’m not sure what you would do if you had more guests, but it made for a really cool dramatic entrance and some great photos!
When you look through the photos there is one of the room in the conservatory where the ceremony took place but with out any people in it. This is a HDR composite of 6 photos which I think turned out pretty cool. I don’t typically do HDR photos on wedding days but with the sun setting in front of me and all the color I just couldn’t resist.
I know sometimes people stumble upon these blog posts who are planning their weddings at these venues so I wanted to give my final thoughts. For a small ceremony like Courtney and Nate’s it was great. It’s also a great place to do fun and creative photos. We’ve had receptions here before that were able to accommodate larger groups, but they are not set up well to do larger ceremonies. They don’t have facilities for getting ready/dressed and family is stuck waiting in the foyer for 15-30 min between the time the park closes and when the staff is switched over to wedding mode. As long as you’re aware of these things before hand it’s a really neat space.
oh i looove the conservatory gardens!! 🙂 these are gorgeous – a photographer’s dream setting 🙂
