S/ SW road trip 2011

One of the unique things about being wedding photographers is that come March and early April in MN things slow way down…. The weather here is pretty much miserable so the last few years we’ve packed up the car and headed out of town for awhile. This year we traversed 10 states drove nearly 5000 miles and spent over 60 hrs in the car. That might sound miserable to some people, but the scenery and stops along the way always make it totally worthwhile. We always return with a new appreciation for this awesome country… and our Saab station wagon. We’re very thankful to God for the blessing us with jobs we love and time to spend with one another; can’t complain about that!

The first stop on our trip was at Matagorda Island just outside of Port O’Connor, TX. It’s an isolated park that requires a boat to reach. As you can see, it was beautiful and the dogs loved it! However, high winds with blowing sand cut this portion of our trip short and we headed on towards Tucson, AZ. Karin’s grandparents live there and we always enjoy the good weather and great food. After Tucson, we headed north to Sedona, AZ where we camped and hiked and then on towards home doing some hiking and sightseeing in Colorado.

SW Trip Recap

Earlier this Month Karin and I, and our two dogs Moses and Maizy, headed out of town for a few weeks to visit her Grandparents and enjoy our last few weeks off. Other than a long stop in Tucson the trip was a whirlwind of sampling national and state parks… and whatever else we found a long the way. There is so much unique beauty in the four corner states, it is seriously ridiculous. When you consider how similar all of the Midwest is, it is amazing that in many parts of AZ and UT you can go from dry scrub desert to hillsides covered in saguaro and wildflowers to alpine forests to crazy rock formations in a few hours or less. Many places that we stopped one could spend weeks or months exploring/ hiking/ biking/ photographing. I think we’ll be back again!

Trip to Florida Keys

Karin and I got the chance to take a week and head down to sunny florida. Not only was it great to be able to be outside without the winter layers, but we also enjoy photography in a new local. Here are a few of our favorite pictures.

North Shore mini-vacation

Karin and I got the opportunity to take a short 3 day vacation this week up to the north shore… Rain or shine we were going to get out of town for a couple days… and we got a little bit of both.

We did a bunch of hiking and exploring… and Moses (our dog) did a lot of swimming. Even though we only camped out for two nights I made sure to build plenty of smoky campfires so that our persons and belonging were fully engulfed by that wonderful token campy smell. We, of course, took lots of pictures… here are a few of my favorites.
